Yay for me (Daniel)

Just a quick one to say that having asked you all to wish me luck in finding a job but a mere day ago, I have 3 days freelancing with a production rental company starting tomorrow. Not only that but the guy who owns the company is putting me in touch with other people he knows, so there is more work just around the corner. So wish me luck tomorrow as it definitely seems to be helping.

New York, New York

Hi Everybody,

I have finally found an internet cafe that doesn't seem to crash so I will now download my last 2 weeks.

Well after I left Sydney I had a pleasant flight to Tahiti despite being sad to say goodbye. When I arrived I was there for a good 5 mins before I was shuffled on to the jam packed flight to New York; however Tahiti still seems like a lovely place. There were 3 little Tahitian guys playing guitars to welcome everyone. Very cute.

The flight to New York was possibly the most anxiety ridden flight of my life but I still managed to squeeze in a good couple of hours sleep. On arrival to the big apple I found myself on the good side of customs quite quickly and had no real problems with the scary women at the immigration desk, however there was no loving wife. What was going on I wondered. So I called Taliesen only to find out that the silly girl had gotten the time wrong. So a very cranky Daniel got into a Yellow NY cab and said head to Manhattan (I still had not seen the city as we flew in from the north).

So NY cabbies are just as crazy as they are in the movies and after about 45 mins of nearly running EVERYONE over and regaling me with lines from crocodile Dundee we hit the Queens Bridge and I saw the skyline, which I must say was pretty overwhelming.

From there it was only a couple more minutes (and many near pedestrian misses) that I arrived at the hotel to a very sheepish and apologetic wife, but we soon forgot the miss-hap as we were both overcome with emotion at seeing each other.

So after a few nights in a hotel we have temporarily settled in a suburb called Inwood which is way up the top of Manhattan at 207th St.

Briefly in the last 2 weeks I have:

Seen the Puerto Rican festival (HUGE)

Eaten real New York Pizza (HUGE Slices and awesome)

Seen Keanu Reeves being harassed by a little black man (Aww Man I know it's you)

Been in Times Square and asked if I wanted to buy 7 Hip Hop tracks for $7 off a small crew from the Bronx

Gone to a dodgy rock and roll bar underground

Seen the world trade center site

Seen the statue of liberty

And even gone to the ballet with gay black men

So it has been a busy couple of weeks. Gotta go now though I will try and write again soon. Love you all and wish me luck in finding a job.

Home Stretch!!!!!

Hey All!!!!
It looks like this huge ordeal could almost be over. Daniel is not getting his hopes up but I can't help but be excited.
Yesterday, Daniel went into Immigration with a copy of my tax return form and a letter stating what sort of health insurance we are getting (it was hard because his Diabetes is considered a "pre-existing condition" and most companies won't cover pre-existing conditions for the first year - I'm like "why the hell would a diabetic want insurance that DIDN'T cover the diabetes???"). They took both forms and his passport and said that someone would call him if there were any problems. BUT, if there are no problems, he will receive his passport with his permanent Residency Visa in it but express post WITHIN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, he's not getting happy because they could still call him and say that they still need this or that. But, he has tried to give them his passport before, like at his official interview, and they said "no, for safe keeping, you hold onto it until we are actually ready to give you your visa". And, NOW THEY'VE TAKEN IT!!!!!!!!!!!
So, I'm all excited because as far as I'm concerned, they've basically just given us the sign that we are ALMOST there. As in, Daniel will most likely receive his greencard in the next two working days. So, we are thinking he'll fly out on Saturday, the 10th - just over a week away!!!!!!!!!!
"I'm walkin' on sunshine, waoh-oohh, I'm walkin' on sunshine, waoh-oh-oohh, I'm walkin' on sunshine, waoh-oohh, And don't it feel GOOD!!!!!"
I may get to see my boy in a little over a week. Today is a very good day!!!!!
Love to you all!!!!!
Taliesen.
